Port Huron Civic Theatre Audition Announcement

We are very excited to announce details for the Sound of Music auditions. This iconic show will be performed December 13-15, 2024 at McMorran Theatre in Downtown Port Huron. Please read below to learn more about the audition process.

Audition Location: Blue Water Convention Center at 800 Harker Street in Port Huron
Audition Date and Time: September 15th, times vary by role (please see steps below to identify your audition time)

Step 1: Identify the role(s) that you are interested in auditioning for. This will determine if you are in Audition Group #1 or Audition Group #2. Information about each character may be found in the PDF document called Sound of Music Role Descriptions.

Audition Group #1: Maria Rainer, Captain von Trapp, Max Detweiller, Elsa Schrader, Mother Abbess, Sister Berthe, Sister
Margaretta, Sister Sophia, Franz (non-singing role), Frau Schmidt (non-singing role), Herr Zeller (non-singing role), ensemble role of Nuns or Nazi Soldiers

Audition Group #2: Friedrich von Trapp, Louisa von Trapp, Kurt von Trapp, Brigitta von Trapp, Marta von Trapp, and Gretl von Trapp

Audition Group #1 OR Audition Group #2: Rolf Gruber and Liesl von Trapp

Step 2: Identify the time that you need to be at the audition.

Audition Group #1: Arrive at 2:15 to check-in and have a headshot taken. Audition will take place from 2:30 to 4:00. Callbacks at 7:00 pm. You will be asked to perform a vocal selection and read for us from the appropriate scene for your character. Please access the Google Folder called Sound of Music Audition Materials to familiarize yourself with the character(s) you plan to audition for as well as the appropriate vocal cuts and sides.

Audition Group #2: Arrive at 4:00 to check-in and have a headshot taken. Audition will take place from 4:30 until you are dismissed. Callbacks at 7:00 pm. The audition will consist of a vocal performance (some individuals will be dismissed after this portion) and then those asked to stay will read a scene for us from the show (again, some individuals will be dismissed after this portion). Please access the Google Folder called Sound of Music Audition Materials to familiarize yourself with the character(s) you plan to audition for as well as the appropriate vocal cuts and sides.

Step 3: Fill out the digital audition form prior to arriving on Sunday, September 15th.

Step 4: Familiarize yourself with the audition materials. We have included Vocal Cuts and Scene Sides for characters in the show. You should be familiar with them before you walk into the audition. Paper copies of vocal cuts and scene sides will be available at the audition. Additionally, we will have a pianist available to play the music for you during your vocal performance.

Step 5: If you are not able to attend the audition in person then you may audition virtually by submitting your materials digitally. Virtual submission must be submitted before 11:59 PM on Saturday, September 14th. Virtual submissions should be emailed to phcivictheatre1@gmail.com. We will email you back to confirm that we have received your video submission.

Special Notes:

Casting Note #1: This is a cut audition for all participants. Additionally, the number of available roles for children are extremely limited in this production and we do not anticipate casting a child in any other role than the von Trapp family. One of the key determining factors for casting the von Trapp family children will be height.

Casting Note #2: Those auditioning for one of the seven von Trapp family children should be between the ages of 6 and early 20s.
